The day many of us have been waiting is here. After 2 years of work the new train station building in Katowice will be opened. The new building is a reconstruction of the unique cup shaped pillars, which formed the modernistic brutalism style station hall, which due to poor technical conditions was demolished in 2010. The construction workers did an amazing job. The reconstructed pillars are almost an exact copy, but are fitted to the present building safety standards and requirements. The new station makes the biggest impression when seen from Stawowa Street.

On Monday the 29th of October at 13:00 the Prime Minister of Poland, Mr Donald Tusk, accompanied by the Minister of Transport – Sławomir Nowak and probably directors of Polish Railways, the investor and the President of Katowice. The ceremony will accompanied by other events and… free coffee from Starbucks, which is located in the station. Unfortunately for the opening of the underground bus station we will need to wait longer, probably until the end of the year.
