According to the Deutsche Welle Katowice are becoming a symbol of sustainable development in Poland and Europe. The editors of the station are very impressed how the city has changed in the last decade, from an industrial, mining town to a modern european green city. Special attention has been put to the innovative Maria Goeppert-Mayer office building, which is the first ecological office building in our country.
Katowice looks very much like a city in transition. On the one hand, soot-covered buildings showing its days as a mining town abound. On the other, new construction sites can be seen on nearly every corner. Its rapid transformation is obvious.
